Holiday Baking for the holidays
does not need to be complicated with a plethora of ingredients or hours spent in the kitchen. Baking cookies with loved ones should be fun and enjoyable, not messy and stressful. I am not one to cook and quite honestly I despise cooking. When I first started dating my husband that is the one thing I shared with him, “I do not cook and it is not something I like to do” He was fine with my decision and even offered to do the cooking. After all these years I am still amazed by his cooking skills and how easily he can create wonderful meals out of nothing. Something I wish I was able to do but never seemed to accomplish. That is until I became a mother again after 16 years and then suddenly holiday baking was something I wanted to do with my daughter.
Starting again as a parent has it’s advantages. Why? Today we have the internet, Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram among other apps that provide a world of possibilities. This did not exist several years ago when my now adult children were kids. I used the library, the bookstore and entertainment to get any type of ideas for creating activities and making cakes. Years ago all we had were magazines, books and TV shows to get ideas for decorating, cooking, skin care and fashion. And now we have technology at our finger tips. I never realized how many sugar cookies I could make from Betty Crocker’s instant cookie mix. So many ideas to choose from and all you need is a stick of butter and one egg. Simple! No lavish ingredients and no fancy gadgets. Just a bag of instant cookie mix and your hands.
Fun With Holiday Baking
For the past few weeks I have been baking cookies with my little princess and she loves it. I love having her as my helper and she is so obsessed with cooking. It is also a great way for the two of us to bond. If you are anything like me in the cooking department, I highly recommend Betty Crocker products. She has made me want to spend more time cooking in the kitchen even if it is just baking cookies. And I never realized how much fun it can be. I still have so many other cookies I want to bake with my little princess, but for now I am happy to share the cookies we made so far.
Shown below is a baking set I purchased at my local grocery store for $5.00. Not bad for your holiday baking needs.
Shown below is Savanah mixing the food coloring in the icing. (Her favorite thing to do)
